Synopsis & Discussion
Forecaster: -M. Graves
PM-10 (dust) exceeded the Federal Health Standard yesterday in Yuma, reaching an AQI of 123. This occurred due to gusty winds out of the west-northwest in the evening. Despite high PM-10 levels that carried over into early this morning, PM-10 is back down to more manageable levels.

Today and Wednesday will be much calmer as high pressure builds over Arizona. However, another strong low pressure system is expected to impact the area on Thursday. This storm will bring with it the region's next round of gusty winds. However, this time, Yuma's winds--out of the west--are forecast to begin picking up later in the morning and lasting through the day. Considering the way things have been going lately, a PM-10 High Pollution Advisory may be possible. Conditions are then forecast to improve by Friday.

Regarding ozone, ozone has the potential to reach the Moderate Air Quality Index (AQI) category a couple days this week. On Thursday, despite the strong winds, ozone transport from California may be possible again.

Check back tomorrow for the next Yuma air quality forecast.
